MALABO -- Sudan rallied twice to salvage a 2-2 draw against Angola in the African Cup of Nations on Thursday to retain faint hopes of a quarterfinal berth. Manucho gave Angola the lead with a low strike in the fifth minute after poor defending, before Mohamed Ahmed Bashir headed the equalizer in the 33rd. Manucho put Angola back in front with a 50th-minute penalty, but Ahmed Bashir scored again in the 73rd to level for the second time for Sudan. The result leaves Angola well placed to progress with four points from two games, while Sudan has one point and must beat Burkina Faso in its last match to have any chance of qualifying. "We will keep fighting. We have now four points and our objective as always is to try to do better," Angola coach Lito Vidigal said. Later, Burkina Faso faced pre-tournament favourite Ivory Coast in the other Group B match at the 15,000-plus Nuevo Estadio de Malabo. Sudan coach Mohamed Abdallah made two changes from the 1-0 loss against Ivory Coast, preferring Akram Elhadi Salim in goal and bringing in midfielder Mohamed Tahir. Vidigal named an unchanged lineup from the 2-1 win against Burkina Faso, resisting the temptation to include former Germany youth international Nando Rafael, who received clearance to play earlier in the week. Attendance was again disappointing for the match, with a pocket of around 500 Angola fans on the halfway line but thousands of empty seats elsewhere. Angolas supporters were soon celebrating when their side took the lead thanks to a glaring error from Sudan defender Nagm Eldin Abdalla. Manucho robbed the ball as the defender tried to turn and advanced into the box to drill a low shot into the corner for his second cup goal. "Im trying to minimize the small mistakes of our inexperienced defenders playing against high-quality strikers," said Abdallah. "I think we are improving." Sudan was playing a more expansive game than the counterattacking style that frustrated Ivory Coast, and Tahir forced Angola goalkeeper Carlos Fernandes into a diving save in the 18th. "To survive in this competition you have to win, so we played more offensive" said Abdallah, whose team was searching for its first away win in the finals since 1963. The equalizer came soon after when Mudather Eltaib crossed from the right and Ahmed Bashir rose above the defence to send a glancing header just inside the post. That was Sudans first goal in the finals since 1976. Djalma had an effort cleared from the goalmouth in the 38th, but Angola had let the initiative slip as halftime arrived. Vidigal sent Rafael on for his debut in the second half and five minutes into the second period Djalma was tripped in the box by Sudan defender Nazar Hamid for a penalty. Manucho side-footed the spot kick to the goalkeepers right to restore Angolas lead. Yet again however, Angola made the mistake of sitting back and Ahmed Bashir volleyed into the net to level for the second time after Jose Vinguidica failed to clear. "We made a mistake and Sudan took advantage to score," Angola captain Andre Macanga said. "Its a very fair result. We depend on ourselves, theres still a long way to go in this tournament." Shawn Marion Authentic . Tuesday nights 5-3 victory over the Boston Red Sox fit that category perfectly. The 33-year-old right-hander was 14-7 with a career-low 3.64 ERA in 28 starts for his hometown San Diego Padres last season. He joins a rotation that includes NL Cy Young Award winner Clayton Kershaw, Chad Billingsley, Ted Lilly and fellow newcomer Chris Capuano, who signed a $10-million, two-year deal last week.GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Mike Smith stopped 30 shots and the Phoenix Coyotes became the first team to shut out the Chicago Blackhawks this season with a 2-0 victory Friday night. Coming off a disappointing loss to Dallas, the Coyotes charged at the Blackhawks following a pregame ceremony honouring the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team. Keith Yandle scored 69 seconds in and had an assist on Radim Vrbatas goal late in the second period. Smith made it stand up with some tough saves late in the third period, closing out his second shutout of the season after rocker Alice Cooper played a three-song set during intermission. Antoine Vermette extended his career-high point streak to nine games on Yandles goal in front of a raucous, sold-out crowd. Chicago had impressive victories in sweeping the two Southern California teams this week, but struggled offensively without leading scorer Patrick Kane, who left to attend his grandfathers funeral. The Blackhawks allowed two power-play goals after killing off 32 of 33 penalties the previous 10 games. They couldnt solve Smith and now head into the Olympic break off their first shutout since Game 3 of the Stanley Cup finals against Boston last June. The Coyotes have been agonizingly inconsistent, playing well against good teams and struggling against teams further down the standings. Phoenix beat rival Los Angeles 3-0 in one of its best games of the season and followed that with a loss to Buffalo, which has the leagues worst record. The Coyotes bounced back to beat Pittsburgh, then lost on Tuesday to Dallas, a team they are jostling with for a playoff spot. They got off to a fast start against the Blackhawks, which came to the desert with 84 points, second-most in the NHL. Yandle trigggered it.dddddddddddd He was fired up by the 1980 U.S. Olympic teams appearance, fist-bumping every player as they went by the bench. Yandle, left off the current U.S. Olympic team, used that energy to score a power-play goal 69 seconds into the game on a hard slap shot from near the blue line. After one shot in the opening 14 minutes, the Blackhawks turned up the pressure late in the first period and early in the second. Smith stood his ground during Chicagos flurries and had stellar sequence late in the second period, when he slid over to stop a redirected shot by Jonathan Toews, then stopped a point-blank shot by Patrick Sharp, who stood in disbelief for a few seconds before looking back at the Coyotes goalie. A few minutes later, Smith ended up on his backside in the net with his mask lying in front of him after being run over by Brandon Saad. Defenceman Michal Rozsival was called for an unsportsmanlike after the play to give Phoenix a 5-on-3 and Vrbata capitalized quickly, beating Corey Crawford with a wrister from the slot. Cooper kept the vibe going during the second intermission with "Im 18," "No More Mr. Nice Guy" and "Schools Out," and Smith made the shutout stand with some tough stops, including a nifty glove save on Saad after Chicago pulled Crawford for an extra attacker. NOTES: Ten members of the Miracle on Ice team were present for the pregame ceremony and current Olympians on the Coyotes and Blackhawks also were recognized. ... Coyotes C Martin Hanzal missed the game due to an illness. ... Chicago D Johnny Oduya missed his second straight game with a lower-body injury. ... Vermette has eight goals and four assists during his point streak. cheap jerseys Cheap NFL Jerseys ' ' '
