JOHANNESBURG, March 8 (Xinhua) -- Brazilian Football Confederation (BFC) donated 120,000 U.S. dollars to the Nelson Mandela Foundation this week, said the foundation on Friday night.

BFC was in South Africa this week when their national team played a friendly match against South Africa whom they beat by 5-0. The Brazilians donated the income they earned from the friendly match.

The Nelson Mandela Foundation said that they would use the donated money to promote social justice and democracy in South Africa and around the world, keeping Mandela's legacy alive.

"Madiba recognised the intrinsic power of sport to bind," noted Melville, adding that by quoting from Mandela's speech in 2000 "Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire, it has the power to unite people in a way that little else does. It speaks to youth in a language they understand."
