The Houston Texans released right tackle Derek Newton on Thursday.

Newton tore the patellar tendon in both knees in a Week 7 game against the Denver Broncos in 2016. He didn't play again for Houston  John Matuszak Jersey , sitting out 2017 on the physically unable to perform list. Newton failed a physical in March.

A starter for every game in 2013, '14 and '15  Xavier Rhodes Jersey , Newton got a five-year, $26.5 million contract from the Texans. He was a seventh-round selection in the 2011 draft and played in 82 games with 68 starts. His versatility showed when he also played some left tackle and both guard positions for Houston.

"I've always admired Derek Newton's work ethic and dedication to the game of football  Duke Riley Jersey ," coach Bill O'Brien said. "He has been a terrific teammate and someone who constantly put the team first. We wish him the best."

Wide receiver Eric Decker became a free agent in March and has yet to find a team for the 2018 season, but it sounds like he knows where he'd like to spend the upcoming season.

Decker made an appearance on Sirius XM NFL Radio Wednesday and said that he thinks the Patriots would be a "good fit." Decker noted that he began his career with the Broncos when Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels was the head coach in Denver and that he spoke to New England last year before signing with the Titans.

There's been no sign that the Patriots are considering Decker or any other additions to the receiving group right now. That could potentially change should Julian Edelman's four-game suspension remain in place after an appeal or if Malcolm Mitchell's knee issues persist  Deion Jones Jersey , although those situations may play out a while longer.

Decker had 54 catches for 563 yards and a touchdown with the Titans last season. He visited the Raiders and Ravens earlier this offseason.
