Otitis externa can be divided into two categories, one for the limitations of external auditory canal inflammation, also known as external ear canal boils. The other for the external auditory canal skin diffuse inflammation, also known as diffuse external auditory canal inflammation. Diffuse otitis externa caused by Gram-negative bacteria such as E. coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa or common Proteus, Staphylococcus aureus, or rarely caused by fungi. External ear canal boils often caused by Staphylococcus aureus. Some people (if allergic, psoriasis, eczema or seborrheic dermatitis) are particularly susceptible to otitis externa.
