| The easiest way to waste a Weekend Classic entry is treating the first six games like warm-ups. They are not. Your early record carries too much weight, and one ugly mercy-rule loss can make the 98 OVR reward chase feel miserable by Sunday. I learned this after burning stubs on lineup "upgrades" instead of fixing my approach, so do not assume more MLB 26 stubs will solve a bad first-six-game plan. Go in with a lineup you already know, a rested bullpen, and enough time to finish every game. How I play the first six Weekend Classic games My rule is simple: play for clean innings before playing for highlight-reel offense. A lot of opponents swing early in the count, especially once they see velocity. Start with sinkers, cutters, or offspeed stuff out of the zone, then bring the heater upstairs after they have shown they will chase. If your starter loses confidence in the second or third inning, do not wait for a three-run mistake. Weekend Classic games punish stubborn pitching changes. 1. Use your most reliable starter, not the pitcher with the highest overall. 2. Keep two relievers warmed before the opponent's lineup turns over. 3. Take pitches early until you identify their preferred strikeout sequence. That last point wins more games than people admit. Many players have one automatic pattern: slider away, fastball up, then a breaking ball below the zone. Take the third pitch once, make them throw a strike, and their whole plan often gets shaky. Do not quit just because you are down early, either. Finishing the game protects your PXP progress and gives you useful reads for the next matchup. Chapman is the reward that changes close games The 98 OVR Aroldis Chapman is the more valuable card for most competitive Diamond Dynasty squads. His Outlier fastball creates bad decisions even against players who know it is coming, while the slider gives you a real put-away option against right-handed hitters. The mistake is throwing four-seamers at the top of the zone every pitch. Good players will sit on it. I use the fastball to establish panic, then tunnel sliders just off the outside edge and occasionally steal a sinker or change-speed look if his pitch mix allows it. Chapman should not be your automatic ninth-inning button. Bring him in for the toughest part of the order, even if that is the seventh. Protecting a one-run lead against two right-handed power bats matters more than chasing a save statistic nobody remembers. Where Albies fits and where he does not Ozzie Albies is the better reward if your lineup needs a switch-hitting second baseman rather than another bullpen arm. He is especially comfortable against lefties, covers second with dependable diamond-level defense, and gives you lineup flexibility without forcing a platoon move. His value rises if you prefer contact, hit-and-run pressure, and runners moving through the middle of the order. If your current second baseman already hits both sides well, though, Chapman has a bigger impact on actual Weekend Classic wins. Do not empty your inventory chasing a tiny upgrade before the event. Sell duplicate cards, avoid panic-buying expensive relievers, and save your cheap MLB The Show 26 Stubs for a player who fixes a real weakness in your roster, not a card you will bench after two games.
